Baptist views – Baptists are independent by nature

Baptist Views is a collection of information and articles by Baptists from around the globe.  True Baptists are independent in nature.  We believe that we answer to God, not to human organizations.  We love to get together with other Baptists, as long as you don’t try to tell us how to run our church!

When Baptists get together, we can quickly discover we have differences and sometimes we are pretty stubborn about them.

This page is here in an effort to promote study, not the kind of “unity” that comes from throwing away the things we disagree on.

The best way for us to act when we find our own “Baptist views” are different from another Baptist is to dig into the word of God and see what God has to say.  I have learned over the years to examine the things I have believed for a long time.  Sometimes what I believe is something I have been taught by someone who was taught the same thing by someone else.

Remember the exercise where you stand people in a line, whisper a short message to the first person, then get them to turn and whisper the same message to the next person, and so on?  By the time it gets to the end of the line, especially if it’s a long line, it’s very often nothing like the original message.  Imagine it the message if filled with error to begin with!

So it’s important to examine what we believe.  Ask yourself why you believe a certain way, or why you disagree with what someone else says.  Then prayerfully go to the word of God and see what God has to say.  I cannot tell how many times I have been corrected by God’s word over the years, and very happily, too.  I would rather be corrected by God’s word a thousand times than teach one doctrine incorrectly!
